Autonomous vehicles (AVs) have the potential to revolutionise transport by dramatically improving safety, productivity, mobility, efficiency and user experience. Many automotive OEMs are introducing fully autonomous AV concepts, but few appear to be exploring the transitionary period between the current use of autonomous driver assist features (ADAS) in privately owned vehicles, and the widespread use of the high level shared autonomous vehicles that their concepts display.
Public transport providers may be in an ideal position to intoduce the public to autonomous vehicles because of the trust that users already have in public transport and transport providers’ ability to influence infrastructure change and adopt the financial risk of AV ownership.
Fidere seeks to bridge the gap between current transport modes and fully autonomous shared vehicles by providing users with a trustworthy system of autonomous public transport vehicles that can gently break sceptical and under-trusting users in to the idea of autonomy.
